ELFA Preschool @ Serangoon has embarked on efforts to help make the community a greener place by participating in the NParks Community in Bloom initiative for schools. The programme encourages schools to work hand-in-hand with residents to create community gardens and contribute to making Singapore a City in a Garden. It also helps to instill greater appreciation of nature and a love horticulture, which can help children to learn more about science as they engage in gardening activities in their \u201coutdoor classroom\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>

On 3rd<\/sup> April 2018, NParks representatives visited the centre to help the ELFA teachers and parents better understand how to cultivate a blooming garden. They participated in the different hands-on activities that helped them learn more about potting mix and how to rejuvenate soil using the compost. They also learned about seed germination and methods to propagate plants such as stem cutting. Teachers can share what they have learned with their children in the centre, while parents can help to reinforce the gardening lesson at home.<\/p>\n<\/div>
