On 1 September 2022, ELFA and Kinderland staff, principals, teachers and partners from around the region attended the Kinderland and ELFA Day. The theme for this year’s event is “Inclusion in Physical Education for Every Child”. This aligns with Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA)’s strive towards inclusivity and support for children with developmental needs.

During the opening speeches, Mr Robert Leong (Group Chief Operating Officer, Crestar Education Group (CEG)), Mr Seet Lee Kiang (General Manager, Crestar Education Group (Early Childhood)) and Dr Carol Loy (Director of Curriculum and Professional Development of Kinderland and ELFA), all spoke strongly in support raise the competency of our educators. The right knowledge and techniques are required to provide better opportunities for children with different learning abilities. In addition, we can leverage on our strong curriculum to inspire inclusiveness amongst our children through physical education.

Dr Akira Maheshi’s workshop provided recommendations and examples for enhancing inclusivity through physical education

Rounding up the celebratory event, we were taken through a workshop by our guest speaker, Dr Akira Maehashi. Dr Maehashi, a Professor/Doctor of Medicine Faculty of Human Sciences at Waseda University, Japan, is one of Kinderland’s curriculum advisor. We were encouraged and inspired by his sharing of his research paper titled, ‘Guidance for Physical Education for children with disabilities through sensory and fitness training’.

The day ended on a high note as many anticipated who the winners were for our ‘Most creative pose’ contest! Let us have a look at these interesting takes our teachers had.
