Dressed in their best traditional Chinese costumes, the children at ELFA Preschool @ Serangoon kicked off their Mid-Autumn Festival celebration on 1 October with a lantern parade around the centre.

It was followed by a story-telling session where the teachers shared the legendary story of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Putting their learning into action, the children made rabbit lanterns, rabbit crowns and other crafts to commemorate the festival.

Immersed in the cultural day, the children got to enjoy the tradition of eating mooncakes and drinking tea as they celebrate their friendship. The teachers also conducted a tea appreciation ceremony to explain the steps behind the traditional Chinese tea brewing and savour the taste of their tea.

The highlight of the day was having the children learning to make their own snow-skin mooncakes by rolling the dough, putting them in moulds and filling them with red bean paste. And the prize? They brought their self-made mooncakes home to share with their families.
