The Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节) falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month and is a significant occasion for family gatherings. At ELFA Preschool, this heartwarming festival is more than just mooncakes and lanterns. It is an opportunity to instil a deep appreciation for cultural traditions in our young learners.
The celebration was joyfully observed at ELFA Preschool @ Jurong East, where extended family members joined for a day of cultural festivities. The event began with the captivating tale of Hou Yi and Chang’e, followed by explorations of mooncakes and pomelos. Families participated in the traditional lantern riddle game, “猜灯谜,” (cāi dēng mí) enhancing the festive spirit. A highlight was the mooncake-making activity, where children enthusiastically kneaded dough and shaped their creations, sharing them with friends and family.
Over at ELFA Preschool @ Hougang, children celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival by immersing themselves in its rich traditions. They enjoyed storytelling sessions that brought the festival’s legends to life, followed by dance performances that filled the room with delight. Likewise, families were invited to participate in the school celebration during this time of reunion. Children and parents enjoyed a great time of bonding. They first danced to festive songs. Then, they collaborated to pinch dough. They crafted beautiful mooncakes together. Laughter and precious moments were shared.
At ELFA Chinese Preschool @ Pandan Valley, festive imagery adorned the walls, contributing to the celebratory atmosphere. Activities included tea appreciation. They also involved sharing Chinese family traditions observed during the festival. This helped children appreciate the festival’s significance. It emphasized the joy of family togetherness.
As the festivities concluded, the laughter and joy lingered like the sweet aroma of freshly made mooncakes. Families left with full hearts, having celebrated not only the traditions of the festival but also the connections that make these moments truly special. The Mid-Autumn Festival served as a reminder of the beauty of reunion and the warmth of family ties.
