As the June Holiday Programme at ELFA Preschools conclude, we reflect on a holiday brimming with exploration, learning, and enjoyment. Over the past few weeks, the schools have bustled with activity as children embraced new experiences that stimulated their curiosity and expanded their knowledge.
The first segment of the programme inspired the children to become keen explorers, both indoors and outdoors. They learned about the intricacies of chemical reactions, understanding their importance in the creation of everyday items such as food, medicine, and even detergents. Furthermore, they explored the concept of simple machines and their application in playground equipment like swings, see-saws, and slides. An adventurous element was introduced with treasure hunts, which honed their navigation skills, understanding of grid systems, and observation capabilities as they searched for hidden gems.
The excitement continued with the programme’s second segment, which was designed to foster athleticism. Inline skating lessons provided not just fun but also taught valuable lessons about road safety and etiquette. They also partook in high-energy dance workouts set to improve cardiovascular health, while lessons in Taekwondo fostered discipline and body coordination.
The third segment of the programme, centred on environmental themes, offered immersive learning experiences at the Singapore Discovery Centre. Here, children identified edible plants, learned strategies to prevent food wastage, and understood the vital importance of sustainability, including how to communicate this message within their community. Their visit to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves enriched their knowledge of diverse flora and fauna. Observing mangrove trees and spotting wildlife such as mudskippers, monitor lizards, crabs, and kingfishers turned their holiday into a truly educational journey.
While outdoor adventures brought much excitement, the indoors offered a world of discovery as well. At Kidz Amaze, physical fitness was put to the test through challenging obstacle courses. They also delved into the world of physics, studying the science behind parachutes, forces, resistance, and the material selection for parachutes. A hands-on activity, constructing a firefighter’s pole, helped them comprehend the concept of gravity.
At ELFA, we consistently strive to merge fun with education. We hope that our children had a fantastic and fruitful time during this programme. We believe it served as a stepping stone in their lifelong journey of learning, fostering curiosity, and offering a broader understanding of the world. As they continue on this journey, we hope they will treasure these invaluable lessons and memories.
