Let’s Makan is a gathering of neighbours from different walks of life, sharing a meal together. It is the perfect opportunity for people living close together (upstairs, downstairs, or just down the corridor) to get together meaningfully. It hopes to foster closer relationships among neighbours.
Learning Goals:
To instil in children that value of kindness as they share healthy breakfasts with other people.
Learning Objective:
To show kindness to people by sharing a meal with other people in the neighbourhood such as the cleaners and staff from KLC and Kinderland.
Processes:
1. Invite parents and children to create healthy breakfast wrap or sandwiches, yoghurt parfait and fruit kebabs after the Mother’s day celebration.
2. Prepare the table for the ‘Let’s Makan’ activity for the cleaners in the area. Encourage children to engage in meaningful talk with the cleaners as they join the event. Have the children share the healthy breakfast and give the cards they have prepared for them.
3. Bring the children out to share the healthy breakfasts they have made with their mummies to other people.
4. Let the children go to Kinderland to share the sandwiches/wraps and yogurt parfait to the teachers and staff. Remind the children to greet them with a smile and say ‘Have a great day ahead’.
5. After, bring the children around KLC to share their healthy breakfast and give their blessings to the staff and lecturers.
6. Not forgetting the teachers and staff of ELFA Preschool, bring the children around to share with their own teachers.
Learning Outcome/s:
Children were able to display kindness as they moved around the environment in hope to share the healthy breakfast with other people. As the children were engaged in the activity, they showed enthusiasm as they conversed and shared the food with other people. When the children went back to class they said the being kind felts good as other people were happy when they shared food with them. Children mentioned how being kind can change a person’s mood from sad to happy. Lastly the children shared that they want to continue to show kindness to other people by simply greeting them and showing their concern to other people.
