In celebration of Earth Day 2022, ELFA Chinese Preschool children and staff participated in activities relevant to the 3Rs. These activities increased our children’s awareness of the importance of loving and caring for Mother Nature and our environment.

The school also encouraged green efforts from the comfort of our children’s homes. Gardener’s Day Out, a programme hosted by National Parks Board, was one such initiative. The online activities included webinars, demonstrations by experts and virtual garden tours. These family activities sought to increase parental involvement in their children’s learning.

At ELFA Chinese Preschool @ Hougang, preparation for Earth Day 2022 started early. The centre encouraged ELFA children to work with their parents on an Earth Day themed art project. These were then featured on Earth Day in school. This display of artwork reinforces a sense of pride in the children for their artwork and sustainability efforts.

ELFA parents and children put on their thinking caps to record a song for Earth Day. The children also performed a special song as part of the Earth Day celebration. The song was aptly titled “地球是我们的家, 一个快乐的家。”

The beautiful creations are concoctions of the children’s creativity and recycling efforts.

On 22 April 2022, our students showed up to school excitedly, ready with their costumes, made with recycled materials. A show-and-tell ensued, where the creative children could share their inspiration and creative process. These activities encouraged creative expression, and the presentation will help children build confidence and rationalizing skills. These activities also reinforce their love and appreciation for art and sustainability. On this Earth Day, each child also planted seedlings to furnish an indoor garden in the centre.
